Randy joined LifeLearn Inc. as President and CEO in December 2016. Since joining LifeLearn, Randy has been working on a number of strategic initiatives, including LifeLearn’s initiative to be the preeminent source for pet insurance education and information.
Prior to joining LifeLearn, Randy spent 16 years in the pet insurance industry, most recently as the Top Dog at Pets Plus Us, a Canadian provider of pet insurance located in Oakville, Ontario. Randy was hired to develop and launch Pets Plus Us for its previous owner Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada (RSA), who then sold Pets Plus Us to Pethealth Inc. in April 2016. Upon launching Pets Plus Us to consumers in April 2013, and prior to Randy’s departure in December 2016, Pets Plus Us experienced significant growth and at the time of his leaving was one of the fastest growing pet insurance brands in Canada. It was also the highest-rated pet insurance brand in North America on petinsurancereview.com during Randy’s term.
Before starting Pets Plus Us in 2012 and its launch in 2013, Randy was President and CEO of Western Financial Insurance Company (WFIC). During his 10+ years with WFIC, the company grew by more than 530%. At WFIC, Randy led the rebranding of Petplan to Petsecure Pet Health Insurance. He also developed key business partnerships with the Canadian Automobile Association, the Canadian Kennel Club, HBC, Nestlé Purina PetCare, President’s Choice Financial, Procter & Gamble, and Walmart (where Randy helped create their first in-store pet-insurance offering in partnership with Iams). In 2004, this program rolled out to more than 200 Canadian Walmart stores.
A founding and well-respected member of the North American Pet Health Insurance Association (NAPHIA), Randy also sits on the board of The Farley Foundation and the Guelph Humane Society, and was previously a board member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS).
David joined LifeLearn Inc. in January 2017 as the EVP of Business Development. Immediately prior to LifeLearn, David was a senior consultant at Brakke Consulting, Inc., a firm specializing in animal health.
David graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977 and practiced small animal medicine in the Dallas, Texas area. In the mid-80s, he acquired an MBA with interest in working in the industry side of animal health.
In 1997, he first joined Brakke Consulting, the largest dedicated animal health consulting firm in the world. His specific interests and expertise at Brakke were start-ups, early stage technology, new product opportunity and development assessment, go-to market strategies, and market research.
He was recruited into the pet insurance business in 1999 by Veterinary Pet Insurance to be the Executive VP of Business Development. In that role, he managed marketing, customer service, inside agent sales and internet sales. He left VPI in 2004.
In 2005, he was recruited by Nestlé Purina PetCare Company to use his start-up expertise to design and launch a new pet insurance company, PurinaCare Pet Health Insurance. He served as President & COO until May 2013, when the company was sold to another pet insurance company and David returned to Brakke Consulting.
In addition to his position at LifeLearn, David still practices veterinary medicine on a part-time basis.
